We are born into relationship. As small children, we use adaptations as a survival mechancism in order to get what we need. Often these patterns that were once effective start to become less so in adult life, but remain mostly unconscious. Maybe you are struggling to form deep, secure relationships? You may avoid intimacy but crave it deep down. You may give too much to others or struggle with boundaries? Perhaps an upsetting relationship has brought you to therapy in the first place? Or perhaps low self-esteem, anxiety and depression has brought you here?
Our therapeutic space is one where, together, we can empower you to explore and heal from these issues in order to start creating healthier relationships with yourself and others
Trauma can show up in lots of different ways. These may include depression, irritably, loss of interest, numbing, insomnia, emotional overwhelm, hopelessness about the future, shame and worthlessness, little or no memories, flashbacks and nightmares, hypervigilance, mistrust, panic attacks, anxiety (social/generalised), pain/migraines, eating disorders, substance abuse, dissociation or disconnection from the body, self-destructive behaviour and loss of a sense of who you are. We can work together to help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
I have a wealth of expertise working with LGBT+ clients, . I provide a safe affirming space. For some people this is how they identify but for others they would like a space in which to explore thoughts and feelings surrounding this. What does it mean for you?
I have worked with both younger clients as well as individuals coming out or wanting a deeper understanding or their identity later in life.
My approach to therapy is Integrative Relational which is made up of different modalities including
Internal family Systems I have done my level 1, 2 and 3 at the IFS institute which is the only official training
Somatic experiencing- I am currently training in Somatic Experiencing, this is a body based approach to treat trauma and other stress disorders
Sensory Motor Psychotherapy-draws from somatic therapies, neuroscience, attachment theory, and cognitive approaches, as well as from the Hakomi Method.
Psychodynamic - linking past events and subconscious coping mechanism into present behaviours and behavioural patterns
Developmental - this includes attachment theory and is based on the coping strategies we use for attachment as children and how they present themselves in the present
Person centred - a client centred, non-directive approach
Creative therapies - these help to uncover hidden-state emotions and trauma in order to heal
Spiritual therapies - these therapies can include existentialism which focuses on death, freedom, responsibility, and the meaning of life
Neuroscience - I have studied neuroscience and the effect of therapy in creating new neuropathways and awareness. I studied the nervous system and how this contributes to symptoms such as depression and anxiety
